until the big day
We’re getting married in Xi’an, and we would love for you to be there.
Xi’an is where the Silk Road began, and it’s where John grew up. We know asking you to cross an ocean is a big ask, so we’ve planned five days we hope are worth the trip — and we’re covering your hotel while you’re with us.
Please read the next part carefully. You’ll need to book time off and arrange travel well in advance, and some of you will need a visa.
RSVP
Please reply as soon as you can, and no later than 31 December 2026. We need to hold rooms, and those of you needing visas will want the runway. If you need longer to decide, just say so.
The form asks for your names as printed on your passports, whether you’re coming for the full trip or the wedding only, and whether you’re bringing anyone. Everything else is optional.

Once you’ve RSVP’d we’ll add you to a WhatsApp group for everyone travelling, so you can compare flights, plan side trips and work out who else is on your connection.
One more thing. We’re collecting photographs of you with us — dinners, trips, the one from years ago you never posted — to put on the screens at the wedding. Please add yours to the shared album (or WhatsApp them to us if you don’t have a Google account). The day itself will be covered by a photographer and videographer, and we’ll share their pictures with everyone afterwards.

Everything happens here — the ceremony, the celebration, and your room. Once we collect you from the airport, you won’t need to arrange transport for anything.
The Five Days

The order of the two tour days may shift a little nearer the time, depending on tickets and traffic. The wedding day won’t.
Can’t make the whole trip? Come just for the wedding. We’d far rather have you for one day than not at all — there’s an option for that when you RSVP.
What You Need To Do
1. Book time off now
For the full trip, be in Xi’an from Wednesday 12 May to Sunday 16 May. Travel from North America eats a day in each direction, so most of you should request Monday 10 May to Tuesday 18 May off.
Coming only for the wedding? You’ll need Friday 14 to Sunday 16 May, plus travel days.
2. Book your travels
Most of you will fly into Xi’an Xianyang International Airport (XIY), connecting through an Asian hub. If you’re coming by high-speed rail from elsewhere in China, you want Xi’an North station.
We’ll ask for your arrival details nearer the time so we can have a car waiting. Nothing needed at RSVP.
3. Don’t book a hotel
Your room is on us. Full trip: four nights, 12–15 May. Wedding only: two nights, 14–15 May. Check-out is Sunday the 16th either way.
4. Check your passport, and whether you need a visa
Your passport should be valid through at least November 2027. Renewals take months — start now if yours is close.
US passport holders will almost certainly need a visa. Canadians probably won’t. Read the visa page →
